Letter from Dennis: Why Showing Up Still Matters

Letter from Dennis: Why Showing Up Still Matters

Every summer, the PowerHouse Alliance National Sales Meeting brings together our distributor members and more than 30 vendor partners for several days of collaboration, education, and relationship building. On paper, it's a sales meeting. In reality, it's one of the most important investments we make all year.

This year's keynote speaker, former Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Famer Mel Blount, shared a story that stuck with me. Early in his football career, a college scout attended one of his games without him even knowing it. After the game, that scout told Mel's father they wanted to offer him a scholarship.

The lesson was simple.

You never know who's watching, so always show up as your best.

That idea extends far beyond athletics.

In our industry, every meeting, every conversation, and every handshake has the potential to open a new door. A discussion over breakfast might lead to a new vendor partnership. A question asked during a product training could spark a better solution for a dealer. A conversation with another PowerHouse member may uncover an idea that helps an entire region better serve its customers.

Those opportunities rarely appear on the agenda.

One of the greatest strengths of the PowerHouse Alliance is that while our members serve different markets across North America, we're never working in isolation. We come together to share ideas, discuss challenges, and learn from one another. When one member discovers a better way to support dealers, the entire Alliance benefits. That spirit of collaboration is what makes our network stronger and ultimately delivers greater value to the dealers we serve.

Mel also reminded us that while you're standing still, someone else is continuing to improve. I don't take that as a message to simply work longer hours. I see it as a reminder to keep learning, investing in relationships, and looking for ways to grow. Business moves quickly, and the companies that continue to show up, ask questions, and seek new ideas are often the ones best prepared for what's next.

That's why gatherings like our National Sales Meeting continue to matter. They create an environment where relationships deepen, ideas are exchanged, and partnerships become stronger.

The same is true for dealers. As we look ahead to CEDIA Expo, I encourage you to make the most of every opportunity to connect with manufacturers, distributors, and peers. Whether it's discovering a new product, attending an educational session, or simply striking up a conversation on the show floor, you never know which interaction will lead to your next great idea, partnership, or project.

Showing up has always mattered. Today, it may matter more than ever.
